Disney+ Set to Reboot Darkwing Duck
Written By Marvin Mando
The terror that flaps in the night will flap again.
A reboot of Darkwing Duck is heading to Disney+. Disney Television Animation is in the early development stages of DW and it's worth noting that the Disney Television Animation Studio falls under the newly created Disney Branding Television Unit (ugh what a name).
It was announced this week that Gary Marsh would be heading this new unit and overseeing all Disney branded television content, including live-action and animated films and series, unscripted content series and specials.
The demographic they are aiming for is kids, pre-teens, teens and families. This all falls under the Disney General Entertainment Content division (ugh again), which is in charge of developing, marketing and producing content for streaming and linear platforms.
Disney Television Animation recently released Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe.
But don't worry. The features of Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm will still be in control of handling their own content, including any spin offs at Disney+.
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are executive producers under their Point Grey Pictures banner (Preacher, Black Monday, The Boys). A writer has not been attached and no release date or window has been announced.
Darkwing Duck was created by Tad Jones. It ran from 1991 to 1992 (is that all?) on The Disney Afternoon block and Saturday mornings on ABC.
