'Mandalorian' Theatrical Film with 'Rebels' Heroes and Thrawn in Discussions

Written By Mikey Sutton • Editor-in-Chief • Owner

Given the the polarized receptions to The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, Disney had been looking for a game winner in the Star Wars sweepstakes. They found one in The Mandalorian TV series for Disney+, which immediately detonated to widespread fan adulation with the debut of Baby Yoda.

The Mandalorian reeled in young viewers in ways the new trilogy did not, and it excited older viewers alienated by the creative decisions of directors Rian Johnson and J.J. Abrams. So it's no surprise that a Mandalorian theatrical movie is being discussed at Disney. Now this will not be a replacement for the TV version; that is going to continue. But the House of Mouse sees an opportunity for this to expand, to tell a story on the big screen. According to a source, the film will include characters introduced on the Rebels animated show and the Big Bad is going to be Grand Admiral Thrawn, which I leaked in the Geekosity Facebook page months ago before anyone else.

Stay tuned as we acquire more information.
