In order to create a new universe, the old one must burn.
In an interview with NME, Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins star Henry Golding has officially revealed what fans have either wondered about or speculated: the new film will be a complete reboot with no ties to its predecessors.
"They’ve recreated G.I. Joe into something very cool and a far throw from what we’ve seen thus far on the big screen. I think there’s room for many spin-offs, to be honest. This, I think, will be the launch of a brand-new franchise," Golding stated.
As I reported here on September 18, its fellow '80s animated favorite M.A.S.K. will be incorporated into the live-action world of G.I. Joe and The Transformers. By cutting ties wih the past, Snake Eyes might begin debuting elements from those other franchises. While adding The Transformers in its initial entry is doubtful, M.A.S.K. could easily be ushered in, even as a cameo.
Yes, this is no confirmation by any means, but Golding's teasing of spin-offs should be considered cookie crumbs. The Hasbro Cinematic Universe is being built one piece at a time.
